The existing drainage systems serving the WSSCM jurisdiction area is mostly combined systems that convey domestic and commercial wastewater along with surface runoff during rain events. WSSCM is actively managing its drainage system through regular desilting and cleaning activities to prevent urban flooding. Additionally, the larvacidal and insecticide spray on water ponds and drains after desilting activities is carried out by WSSCM to control mosquito breeding.

WSSCM is installing special designed gratings on open manholes for the safety of general public as the sewerage and drainage system mainly exist in congested and densely populated area of Mardan city. It is a regular phenomenon that manhole covers/iron gratings get suddenly out of order or disappears and requires urgent arrangement of grating for providing and fixing so that to avoid human casualties.
