Mardan; Chief Executive Officer Water and Sanitation Services Company Engineer Amir Khan has said that this is for the first time in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when company has introduced an integrated system for converting waste into organic fertilizer, under this system approximately 5 tons of waste will be converted into useful fertilizer on daily basis.
He told this to a delegation of Bahria Town, Rawalpindi on their visit to the Integrated Resource Recovery Center Mardan. The delegation was led by Brig. (retd.) Arif Mashwani of Bahria Town Rawalpindi while the Col (retd) Sardar Bahadur, Chaudhry Sherway and Arham Khan was also the part of delegation.
On this occasion Manager Municipal Services of Water and Sanitation Services Company Khalil Akbar, Assistant Manager of Solid Waste Muhammad Ishaq, Chairperson of Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust Sumaira Gul, Program Manager of Norwegian Church Aid Shah Khalid, Naveed Ali Manager IRRC and Other officials were also present.
CEO briefed the participant that this integrated Resource Recovery Center is the first one established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Mardan city with the financial support of Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial trust. This is established in five kanal land provided by WSSCM. This is a multi Purpose facility will contribute to clean and green environment, will develop organic farming in the area and will also introduce employment generation in this particular field as the slogan of the project is “Trash is Cash”.
Chief Executive Officer Engineer Amir Khan said that Integrated Resource Recovery Center in Mardan has been set up for the purpose that waste in Mardan is no longer a problem but it is converted into organic fertilizer through scientific methods which is also very useful for agricultural crops.
He said that the company has formulated an integrated strategy to make Mardan city clean and tidy and two hundred tons of waste is safely disposed of on a daily basis under the IRRC system five tons of kitchen waste is converted into organic fertilizer.
He said that Mardan is an agricultural district and WSSCM is also working to further increase its agricultural production. While appreciating the performance of WSSCM the delegation from Bahria Town Rawalpindi said that IRRC is an excellent system to eradicate waste that also protects the environment from pollution.
He said that Bahria Town would also take full advantage of WSSCM's IRRC facility for converting waste into organic fertilizer. They appreciated the efforts of Chief Executive Officer Engineer Amir Khan of Water and Sanitation Services Company and his team, he said that the system of waste disposal in modern ways by the company is exemplary for others.
The delegation said that a similar project is going to be started in Bahria Town for which Guidance will be sought from WSSCM.
Chief Executive Officer Engineer Amir Khan assured the delegation of all possible cooperation and said that the company was providing the best cleaning facilities to the citizens in its limited available resources.
